Searching Your Vault

You can search your ID Assist Password Manager vaults to find what you need fast. All ID Assist Password Manager apps let you do basic searches, but you can also do advanced full-text searches in the web vault and browser extension. What you can search depends on what you have open in the filter menu or navigation. For example:
  • If you choose All Items, you can search everything in your vault.
  • If you choose Login, you can search only your login items.
  • If you choose My Folder, you can search the items in that folder (but not the ones in a subfolder).

Basic search

You can use basic search on ID Assist Password Manager mobile apps. Just type something (like Facebook or Reddit) and it will look for it in these fields:
  • Item name
  • For logins: username or URI
  • For identities: name
Basic searches are easy because they add wildcards (*) at the beginning and end of your search term. For example, if you search for mail, you will get results for Gmail and email.

Full text search

You can do full-text searches on the web vault, desktop app, and browser extension. They also add wildcards automatically. If full-text search doesn't find anything, ID Assist Password Manager will try locate your search term using a basic search. Full-text search will look for these fields in every vault item:
  • shortid: First eight characters of the item's ID.
  • name: Item's designated name.
  • subtitle: Login username or identity name.
  • notes: Item's notes. Only full-word matches will be listed unless you use wildcards.
  • fields: Name or value. Only Text type field values are included.
  • login.username: Login item's username.
  • login.uris: Login item's URI hostname value.

If you want to narrow down your search to a certain field, you can use the "greater than" (>) symbol and type the name of the field you want to look for. For example:
  • login.username:jsmith will show you login items that have jsmith as the username.
  • name:Reddit will show you any vault items that have Reddit as the name.
  • fields:Security Question will show you any vault items that have a custom text field called Security Question.
If you don't use the > symbol, your search will look at all the fields.

Two-Step Login

Two-step login, also known as two-factor authentication or 2FA, is a security technique used by websites and apps to protect sensitive data. It requires you to verify your identity by entering an additional "token" or verification code, in addition to your username and password, that is typically retrieved from a different device, such as your mobile phone. By requiring this additional verification, two-step login adds an extra layer of security to your account, making it more difficult for hackers to access your information even if they have your username and password.

How do I set up two-step login?

The most common method subscribers use to access ID Assist Password Manager is two-step login through email. However, you can also choose to set up your two-step login using an authenticator app like Authy (available for download on the App Store or Google Play Store).

To set up your two-step login via email:
  1. Open your ID Assist Password Manager web vault and click on the profile icon.
  2. From the dropdown menu under your profile, select "Account Settings”.
  3. In the Account Settings menu, go to the Security page and click on the "Two-step Login" tab.
  4. Under the Two-step Login options, locate the "Email" option and click on "Manage."
  5. Enter your master password to modify your two-step login settings.
  6. Enter the email address you want to use for two-step login and click "Send email”.
  7. Go to your email account and copy the 6 digit verification code that has been emailed to you
  8. Paste or enter the verification code into the appropriate field and click “Turn on”.
That's it! You have successfully set up two-step login via email for your ID Assist Password Manager account. From now on, when you log in to your ID Assist Password Manager account, you will receive a verification code via email that you need to enter in addition to your username and password.

Using an authenticator app

To add authenticator verification to your ID Assist Password Manager account after setting up two-step login via email, you can follow these steps:
  1. Download and install an authenticator app on your mobile device. Popular options include Authy or Google Authenticator.
  2. Open the ID Assist Password Manager web vault on your computer or mobile browser.
  3. Click on your profile icon or username to access the account settings.
  4. From the dropdown menu, select "Account Settings."
  5. In the Account Settings menu, navigate to the "Security" page and click on the “Two-step Login” tab.
  6. Under the Two-step Login options, locate the "Authenticator App" option and click on "Manage."
  7. Follow the prompts to set up the authenticator app. This typically involves scanning a QR code provided by the ID Assist Password Manager.
  8. Once the authenticator app is set up, it will generate a time-based one-time password (TOTP) code.
  9. Enter the TOTP code into the appropriate field and click “Turn on”.
Now, when you log in to your ID Assist Password Manager account, you will need to enter both your master password and the TOTP code generated by the authenticator app to complete the two-step login process.

Because two-step login can permanently lock you out of ID Assist Password Manager if you lose access to your authentication method, we strongly recommend you generate your recovery code.

To generate your recovery code after setting up two-step login, click on the “View recovery code” button and enter your master password. Once your identity is verified, ID Assist Password Manager will present your recovery code which you should print or write down and store in a secure location. If you ever lose access to your authentication method, you can use the recovery code to disable two-step login to access your account.

Generating your recovery code

Creating An Account

Creating your ID Assist Password Manager account is a simple and quick process. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Log in to your ID Assist account at www.idassist.com and go to your dashboard.
  2. Locate the "ID Assist Password Manager" tile at the bottom-right of your dashboard and click to start creating your password manager account.
  3. On the next page, you will be asked to create a secure master password. This is the only password you need to remember to access all your other passwords stored in the ID Assist Password Manager. To create a secure master password, you should use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. You should also avoid using common words, phrases, or personal information. But make sure your master password is memorable - as a zero-knowledge platform, ID Assist can't help you recover your account if you forget your password and you’ll lose all access to your saved information.
  4. Download the ID Assist Password Manager mobile app and browser extension. These will allow you to access your passwords from any device and autofill them on any website. You can also use the app and the extension to generate strong passwords for new accounts or change weak passwords for existing ones.

That's it! You have successfully created your ID Assist Password Manager account and you can now enjoy the benefits of having a secure and convenient way to manage your passwords.

Using Send

A Send is a feature in ID Assist Password Manager that allows you to securely and temporarily share sensitive information with others. It provides end-to-end encryption, meaning that the information is encrypted and decrypted on the client-side. Sends can be created with a specific lifespan, after which they are automatically deleted. You can also configure additional options such as password protection, hiding your email address, and requiring recipients to toggle visibility for added privacy. Sends can be shared with anyone, even those who don't have an ID Assist Password Manager account, by sending them the generated link.

Creating a send

To use ID Assist Password Manager's "Send" feature to share information, you can follow these steps:
  1. Create your Send: Open the ID Assist Password Manager app or extension and navigate to the Send tab. Click or tap on the Add icon to create a new Send.
  2. Specify the Send details: Give your Send a meaningful name and enter the desired text or information in the input box. You can also configure additional options such as setting a password, adding private notes, hiding your email address, or disabling the Send.
  3. Save the Send: Once you are satisfied with the Send details, click or tap on the Save button to create the Send.
  4. Share the Send link: After the Send is created, you can share the generated link with your intended recipients. You can use various communication channels like text, email, or any other preferred method.
Remember to keep track of the Send's configured lifespan, as it will be automatically deleted after a specified period. You can also check the status icons associated with the Send to monitor its expiration or password protection.

Importing Passwords

To import your saved passwords into ID Assist Password Manager, follow these steps:
  1. Log in to the ID Assist web vault at https://passwords.idassist.com/
  2. Select "Tools" from the top navigation bar.
  3. Choose "Import Data" from the tools menu.
  4. From the format dropdown, select the appropriate file format for your saved passwords.
  5. Select "Choose File" and add the file to import, or copy and paste the contents of your file into the input box.
  6. Click on "Import Data" to initiate the import process. If you are importing a password-protected .json file, you may need to enter the password in the Confirm Vault Import window that appears.
Note that importing doesn't check for duplicates, so be cautious if you have already imported some passwords to avoid creating duplicates. Please also note that the specific file formats supported for import may vary, so make sure to choose the correct format based on your saved passwords' source.

Logging In Using The Browser Extension

When you're logged in to the ID Assist Password Manager browser extension, it automatically detects the URI (for example, gmail.com) of the web page you're on and finds your vault items with corresponding URIs. If you have multiple vault items associated with that web page, the ID Assist Password Manager icon will display a badge counter showing the number of items it located in your vault.

When you click on the item you want to use to log in, ID Assist Password Manager will auto-fill your login information on the web page. In cases where you've saved multiple logins for the same web page, ID Assist Password Manager will automatically use the information from the last-used login.

You can also right-click on any username or password input field on a web page and use the ID Assist Password Manager → Auto-fill option. If your vault is locked when you try this, a new tab will open prompting you to unlock. Once unlocked, the browser extension will automatically fill your credentials.

Auto-fill on page load

Auto-fill on page load auto-fills login information on web pages when an item in your vault matches the page URI. To enable auto-fill on page load, go to Settings → Auto-fill in the browser extension and click the "Auto-fill on page load” checkbox. For your security, auto-fill is not the default setting for ID Assist Password Manager.

Lost Secondary Device

Losing your secondary device is a serious situation when you use two-step login as it can potentially lock you out of your ID Assist Password Manager vault. However, if you’ve generated your ID Assist Password Manager recovery code, you should have no problem logging in to your vault.

I have a recovery code

If you’ve generated and saved your two-step login recovery code, you can use it to disable all two-step login methods from outside your vault.
  1. Go to https://passwords.idassist.com/#/recover-2fa/
  2. Enter your email address and master password.
  3. On the login screen, select the option to use a recovery code.
  4. Enter your recovery code when prompted.
  5. If your email address, master password, and recovery code are all correct, you will be logged in to your vault.
  6. Once logged in, all two-step login methods will be disabled.
After you’ve used your recovery code, be sure to generate a new one if you re-enable two-step login. Recovery codes are good only for one-time use.

I don't have a recovery code

If you don’t have a recovery code, you can try logging in using an alternate two-step login method. If you have set up both authenticator app and email verification for two-step login on ID Assist Password Manager, you can use the alternate method to log in. For example, if you have email verification as a backup method, you can choose the email option during the login process to receive a verification code.

If you don't have a recovery code saved, and don’t have an alternate two-step login method set up, unfortunately, there is no way for the ID Assist team to recover your account or data. In that case, you will need to delete your account and start a new one.

I Forget My Master Password

If you have forgotten your master password for ID Assist Password Manager, there are a few steps you can take to try to regain access to your account:
  1. Try logging in on another device: Sometimes, your master password might be saved on another device where you have logged in before. Attempt to log in on a different device and see if your password is automatically filled in.
  2. Get a master password hint: If you have set up a master password hint, click the "Get master password hint" link when logging in. An email containing the hint will be sent to your inbox. Check your email for the password hint. If you haven't set up a hint, you will receive an email informing you of this.
Unfortunately, if you are unable to recover access to your account, there is no way for the ID Assist team to recover it for you. The system is designed with zero-knowledge encryption, which means that the ID Assist team does not have access to your master password or any way to retrieve or reset it. This is done to ensure the highest level of security and protect your sensitive information. If you have forgotten your master password and are unable to recover it using the steps outlined above, you can delete your account and start a new one. Please note that deleting your account will result in the loss of all the items stored in it.

Deleting your account

If you're unable to recover access to your ID Assist Password Manager account, you can delete it and start a new one. However, please note that deleting your account will result in the loss of all the items stored in it. Before proceeding with the deletion, make sure you have tried all possible methods to recover your password. Here are the steps to delete your account:
  1. Navigate to passwords.idassist.com/#/recover-delete.
  2. Enter the email address associated with your account and select Submit.
  3. Open the email from ID Assist Password Manager in your inbox and verify that you want to delete the account.
Once you have confirmed that you want to delete your account, all of your saved login and other important information saved in your vault will be purged.
